Getting around
Plan the wall and Qinhuai as separate walking areas with local connections.

Find your own way through Nanjing.

Nanjing brings together the scale of an old capital and the texture of a living river city. Walk along a section of its walls, then explore the Qinhuai waterfront as the light changes.

The city rewards a visit with a historical thread. Rather than collecting monuments, choose a story that interests you and follow it through a wall, a museum or a neighborhood. Leave enough time to understand what each place represents.

An evening by the Qinhuai adds a more animated chapter: reflections, small meals and people moving along the water. Pair that energy with a quieter morning so the visit has more than one pace.

Alternate broad history with close detail

The city wall gives Nanjing a sense of scale, while the Qinhuai area brings the experience down to streets, bridges and waterfront activity. Seeing both prevents the city from becoming only a historical label. Look for the differences between a long view over the city and the details beside the path.

Give the waterfront its own evening

Keep an evening near the Qinhuai area rather than attaching it to a long list of scattered stops. A meal followed by a short walk allows the change in light and activity to become part of the experience. Save a separate period for the wall, where walking distance and your chosen section shape the visit.
